Brief Profile

Isiaka Layiwola, Babatunde is a Principal Information Officer, and the current Personal Assistant (PA) to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, since November 2020, as he was to Professor Jimoh's predecessor in office, late Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi SAN, from April 2020 to November 2022.

Isiaka has a Diploma in Mass Communication from College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), then an affiliate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) in 2002. He holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Sociology from University of Ilorin in 2010 and Master of Science (M.Sc.) also in Sociology from the same University of Ilorin in 2015.

He is a seasoned and developmental journalist, content writer, sociologist, criminologist and societal engineer. He has been practicing journalism for over two decades. He has three National academic publications in peer review journals to his credit.

Isiaka began his journalism career in 2002 as a reporter at the defunct People's Advocate Newspaper, a newspaper founded by the Late General Abdulkareem Adisa of blessed memory.

In January 4th 2004, he proceeded to the Kwara State Government owned newspaper, The Herald Newspapers, as a reporter. In the Herald, he was assigned to cover various beats which include the state House of Assembly, the office of the Deputy Governor, office of the Executive Governor, as well as general beats.

While performing his professional duty, Isiaka interviewed three different Nigerian Presidents, several Governors and a host of eminent personalities within and outside Nigeria.

Isiaka rose through the ranks to become senior reporter in the Herald Newspapers.

In March 2014, he joined the services of the University of Ilorin and was seconded to the Directorate of Corporate Affairs where he was writing for the University Bulletin and reporting for the institution’s Radio Station (Unilorin 89.3 FM). In 2019, he became the Head of News and Current Affairs Unit of the radio, the position he held until 2020 when he joined the services of Kwara state University (KWASU).

He also served in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) (From Oct. 2010 till Nov. 2011) as a Class Teacher at Government Day Secondary School, Potiskum, Yobe State, Nigeria.

Isiaka was a two term Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Week Committee in 2015 and 2016 respectively. He was the Kwara state Treasurer of NUJ from May 2010 to May 2012, and also held the same position as Treasurer of the union from July 2018 to July 2021.

He was a member of Editorial Board of Maiden Edition of "The Surveillance Magazine" Department of Mass Communication, CAILS, 2001/2002 academic session, member, Editorial Board of Maiden Edition of "The Social Mirror" of the then Faculty of Business and Social Sciences (BSS) now Faculty of Social Science) University of Ilorin 2009/2010 academic session, he was also the Assistant Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Sustainable Health Initiative (SHI) Kwara State (2016 till date). He was a Senior Prefect at Community Secondary School, Ogbondoroko, 1997/1998 session.

Isiaka has won many awards including Merit Award by Mustapha Akanbi Foundation (MAF) on November 17th 2016. MAF is a Non-Governmental Organisation founded by late Justice Mustapha Akanbi, Merit Award by Balogun Gambari Youth Movement, Certificate of Stewardship as the Senior Prefect, of the Community Secondary School, Ogbondoroko, 1997/1998 session, among others,

He is a member of various Kwara State University committees, among them include; Convocation Ceremonials Committee, Editorial Board of KWASU Bulletin, University Environmental Committee, Committee on Transportation, Management of Shops and Allied Businesses, University Housing Committee, KWASU Strategic Planning Committee (Vission 2022-2027) among others.

Isiaka Babatunde is also a member of the following professional bodies.

Nigeria Union of Iournalists (NUJ), Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), and Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA).
